BOLINGBROOK, IL — A library on wheels, the Fountaindale Library's Bookmobile was unveiled to the public June 8. The new vehicle will replace the previous one, which had been used since 2003. Taking the library mobile, the Bookmobile makes scheduled stops around the neighborhood to visit schools and senior facilities. Aside from the many books offered, people can check out movies, CDs, audiobooks and magazines. For those who can't make it to the library, the Bookmobile — part of the library's outreach services — also offers the possibility to apply for library cards and pick up holds. Alongside community members and Bolingbrook Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta, local state senators and representatives attended the ribbon-cutting. State Senators John Connor (D-Lockport) and Meg Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood) were present Tuesday, along with State Representative Dagmara Avelar (D-Crest Hill). "The Fountaindale Library has been a cornerstone of our community for so long," Loughran Cappel said. "For almost two decades, their Bookmobile has helped to get books into kids' hands who otherwise wouldn't have that access and opportunity." During summer months, the Bookmobile puts on puppet shows, and each 30-minute segment is comprised of two or three short acts with music and interactive elements. A schedule of events for the Bookmobile can be found on the library's website.
