On December 11, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued the first emergency use authorization (EUA) for a vaccine, allowing the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine to be distributed in the U.S. Is the vaccine safe? Additionally, California formed a Scientific Safety Review Workgroup to review the federal process and has confirmed that the COVID-19 vaccine is safe and efficacious. Learn more here. Vaccines will be distributed in a phased approach, first in limited amounts to carefully selected high risk groups, including healthcare workers and long-term care residents.
