Where are we? We're here but tired but being treated like shit. Almost every time I've tried to be a bass player in a group the bass and the person playing it are treated like they're only there because they have to be. Everyone just wants a bass player to shut up, know his place and play whatever someone else tells them. Bass is it's own instrument with it's own role to play yet most people treat it like it's nothing more than 2nd fiddle to the guitar. The bass player is responsible for figuring out the parts on their own but they're only allowed to create in some tiny, specific box created by someone else (who usually doesn't actually play bass). It's not worth playing bass for people who have no respect for the instrument or the person playing it. At least that's been my experience over the last 6 years.
