Description
Hi, I have a male giant Halmahera Gecko for rehoming. (Pictures were taken in his travel container, not his actual enclosure) These guys are much like tokays and don't really like being held but can definitely be tamed down with trust and time. This guy doesn't bite, but is very flighty and makes it clear he doesn't wanna be touched very often. He was a wild caught, as almost all of them are, I got him from an exotic pet store. He has been quarantined and tested for mites/parasites. Both tests were negative so he's good to go to a new home! He's an adult, so pretty huge and chunky. He eats very well and is very active. These guys are often called the "poor man's leachie" because they're quite a bit like leachies but not nearly as expensive. This is a hard gecko to find though in the pet trade.
These guys do like to pull off their skin/scales during handling if they're very unhappy/uncomfortable. So please keep that in mind. As you can see he has a little piece of his skin that's healing. It heals extremely quickly as long as you keep the humidity up and doesn't require any special care. Other than that, these guys are very similar care to crested geckos and gargoyle Geckos. With a few differences, so please do your research. They thrive at room temp with lots of humidity and eat the same diet as crested geckos! As you can see, he also fires up extremely dark as well!
I do believe this guy can be tamed down in time but I have two and just don't have the time to work with him. He needs to be housed alone in a medium-large, tall enclosure, he's been thriving in a 18×18×24 exo terra. No cohabbing though, he was picked on a lot when he was at the pet store and I don't think it'd be fair to him at all.
I'm not including his enclosure, price is for the gecko only. But we are asking 150! And we are willing to travel a bit for the right home as well. :)
