The abbreviation GOP is a nickname for the Republican Party. The initials stand for Grand Old Party. The term GOP refers to stuffy old white men. History and tradition are often a good thing. But so is progress. Change is inevitable. People need to embrace some level of progress. Automobiles replacing horse drawn carriages is progress. Telephones replacing telegraphs is progress. Smart phones replacing land lines if progress. The GOP opposes progress. The term “conservative” references a republicans resistance to progress or change. Republicans resist change. The term progressive is the opposite. Democrats are often referred to as progressives because they realize that change is inevitable. Change is good. Democrats embrace change. Too much resistance to change prevents progress. The ideal approach is not to the left or the right, but lies somewhere in the middle. Preserve history and tradition while embracing change. Appreciate the past and the future at the same time. The political parties are too extreme. Most Americans land somewhere in the middle. Clinging to a political party is like vowing to only eat pizza every day for the rest of your life. Why limit your options by claiming a political party. Vote independent. This will give power back to the people.
