Vietnamese cuisine is surprisingly easy to whip up at home and many recipes are low in sugar and naturally gluten-free. This class begins with a quick discussion about the five fundamental tastes of Vietnamese cooking and accompanying ingredients. The first recipe teaches techniques for working with rice paper as we make Vietnamese summer rolls packed with fresh veggies, shrimp and vibrant herbs, paired with a homemade peanut dipping sauce. Learn about the influence French colonialism had on Vietnam’s culinary traditions as we put together the classic Báhn Mì, a crusty baguette sandwich filled with meat, herbs and peppers. Vietnam’s food is generally not spicy, but the third recipe brings the heat using Thai chilies and chili garlic sauce. The lemongrass chicken over vermicelli noodles showcases the incredible depth of flavor Vietnamese food can achieve.
