Description

Celebrate the past, present, and future of Black culture and power! MEET US ON THE ROOF TOP! Join the Quentin R. Mease Equity Innovation Center, African American Resource Network and Holiday Inn Downtown for an advanced screening of Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s powerful and transporting directorial debut, the documentary Summer of Soul—part music film, part historical record created around the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture and fashion. Enjoy never-before-seen concert performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, B.B. King and more, the film uses the festival’s musical performances to tell the story of the cultural and sociopolitical upheaval happening at that time. Doors open at 6:30pm for pre-show entertainment and vibes. Showtime starts at 7:30pm. This outdoor event is at no cost and open to all ages 13 and up. Minors must be accompanied by parent/guardian. Attendees must have a ticket to be admitted. The EIC acknowledges the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights, and the continued effort toward equality for ALL living in systems of oppression. Furthermore, we stand in solidarity against all forms of social inequality and oppression. We invite you to join us for the Y's annual We Wear Rainbow on June 25th, to stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ inclusion and equity.
