Trunk stability training is rarely the focus of programming and often omitted all together, which is why it is the focus of this course. Ask any strength coach, personal trainer or rehab specialist and they will tell you that trunk stability (or "core strength" as it is often called) is incredibly important. Despite this fact, trunk stability training is rarely the focus of programming and is often omitted all together. This is typically to a lack of understanding about trunk stability training in general. In this course, attendees will dig deep into trunk stability and leave the course with the knowledge and skills to properly assess and program trunk stability training in their athletes and patients. ​This course is perfect for strength coaches, personal trainers and rehab specialists such as physical therapists, athletic trainers and chiropractors In this course, Dr. Ulm will cover: Biomechanics and anatomy of trunk stabilityPathomechanics of injury to the lumbar spine​ How to assess of trunk stability Proper cuing to get athletes to stabilize properlyWhen/how to use a belt properlyProper lifting mechanics of common injurious exercises Of course lots and lots of "core" training exercisesSchedule: 07:30-08:00 Registration 08:00-10:00 Lecture: What is stability; functions of the core, mechanics of trunk stability; trunk stability categorization; stabilizing/ loading strategies. 10:00-10:15 Break/Transition to workshop 10:15-12:00 Workshop: teaching a proper brace, various types of trunk stability exercises from basic to complex. 12:00-12:30 Perform multiple styles of trunk stability workouts emphasizing different types of exercises. 12:30-13:00 Lunch 13:30-14:30 Lecture: How to train trunk stability; respiration & stabilization; bracing for maximal lifts: modulating the brace(kettlebell swings). 14:30-15:30 Workshop: Review pressurizing the abdomen; bracing for maximal lifts; modulating IAP. 15:30-15:45 Break 15:45-16:30 Workshop: Perform various styles of trunk stability workouts. 16:30-17:00 Lecture: Programming Trunk Stability 17:00 End of Course
