Description

Communications and activities that are out of this world! Learn about the many ways we communicate with other human beings living in Space and how we relay messages to Spacecraft across our Solar System and back again! In hands-on science, you’ll “see” the invisible electromagnetic spectrum, create your own radio wave experiment, map the infosphere, and even transmit your voice LIVE over the airwaves! Chat with a Ham Radio operator who has conversed with astronauts on board the International Space Station, and we’ll have equipment on hand to allow participants to speak to other operators in Northern Nevada or even farther afield! Science facilitators from the Nevada Space Center will lead this exploration. All activities will take place in Gallery 4 at socially-distanced tables. Safety protocols will follow current Washoe County School District Covid guidelines, which includes Nevada Space Center staff wearing a face mask indoors. Tickets are required for all participants, students and guardians. Participants under 13 must be accompanied by at least one guardian per six students. Activities are targeted for 3rd through 6th grade students but fun for the whole family! Program activities start at 9:30 a.m. and do not repeat. After activities, visit the rest of the museum at your own pace! Experience the past, present and future of Space Exploration! Our goal is to engage, educate and employ individuals in aerospace adventures and Nevada's new innovation economy. Join us at our developing facility within the beautiful National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada. And reach for the stars!
