For more than 40 years, the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) has served the Greater Kansas City region, advancing regional progress through leadership, planning and action. MARC has a long history of convening stakeholders to develop a common agenda and organizing community action to solve region-wide issues. As a metropolitan planning organization and local council of governments, MARC helps the region anticipate and adapt to change and work on a broad agenda that includes healthy people and families, efficient transportation systems, more effective local governments, a strong and competitive regional economy, safe and prepared communities, and a healthy environment. In addition, MARC maintains a repository of regional data, including social, demographic, economic, health, environmental and map data that serves as a powerful resource for informing community efforts. MARC’s Metropolitan Council on Early Learning was formed in 1989. Using the emerging body of research around brain development, MCEL has convened early learning and community stakeholders for the past 25 years, making significant strides in improving access to and the quality of early learning in the region.
