SALEM, MA — Help has been extended to Salem residents who continue to struggle with rent and housing expenses because of a coronavirus crisis-related hardship. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program was extended from 12 to 18 months effective last Friday. The program is for costs accrued since March 13, 2020 and is designed to provide deep relief to low-income renters and their landlords. The program providess rental, utility and moving assistance to those who qualify. Salem renters and landlords interested in the program should call the regional administrator at the Lynn Housing Authority and Neighborhood Development at 339-883-2342 or go here. Funds may still only be expended for costs that were accrued after March 13, 2020. For most, this means that April 2020 is the first month whose arrears may be covered under ERAP funds. Participants without income-based rental subsidies, such as Section 8, and will continue to be offered three months of prospective rental assistance at 100 percent of their monthly rent.
