NEW YORK CITY — Hackers targeted the city's Law Department, snarling its network and potentially exposing personal data, a report says.
The hack first reported by the New York Daily News on Monday apparently follows another recent attack on MTA's computer network.
But the Daily News report on the law department attack detailed wider problems. Attorneys working for the city couldn't file court documents and sources expressed concern to the Daily News about the exposure of Social Security numbers and other sensitive information.
"The City's Cyber Command ... promptly launched an investigation into the matter," a mayoral spokesperson told the Daily News, according to the report. "As the investigation remains ongoing, the City has taken additional steps to maintain security, including limiting access to the Law Department's network at this time."
Details about the hack's extent, whether a ransom was involved or who is to blame weren't immediately clear.
