NEW ROCHELLE, NY — An argument between the driver of a car and the driver of moped turned into violence and a strong arm robbery, according to police.
The incident unfolded Friday afternoon just after 3:30 p.m. near Palmer Avenue and Stephenson Boulevard. New Rochelle police were called to the scene of a reported robbery.
The victim told officers that a man on a moped had nearly struck his car. During the resulting argument, the moped-riding suspect allegedly reached through the open window of the car and took the driver's backpack. The backpack had $300 in cash and sunglasses inside of it, the victim told police.
When the car driver tried to get his backpack back, the suspect is said to have assaulted him, causing him to fall. The car driver cut his hand in the struggle.
The driver of the moped then fled east on Palmer Avenue with the backpack. The moped is described as black with no license plates.
Police say the suspect is a light-skinned, black male between 25 and 30-years-old. He is described as approximately 6 feet tall, weighing around 170 pounds with long, black, unkept hair.
The moped-riding suspect is still at large, as of Monday morning.
