Description
GREENFIELD, WI — A new initiative by Milwaukee is charging for street lights on Milwaukee Water Works bills, but the fees will not apply to Greenfield residents, according to a news release.
Pamphlets with more details may have been mailed to Greenfield residents with their latest water bill but fees will only be charged to City of Milwaukee residents. The new program will charge Milwaukee residents a small fee alongside their water bill to help fund the maintenance of street lights, the release said.
The new program was passed in March by the Milwaukee Common Council to address budget concerns with the city's 77,000 street lights. The city will now bill residents extra on their quarterly water bills. A typical Milwaukee residence will see an extra $40 in charges per year with the change.
The charges will be applied to water bills across the City of Milwaukee and depend on how much street frontage a property has. Questions about a Milwaukee Water Works bill should be directed to [email protected] or 414-286-2830.
