STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Police Department Major Crimes Unit has arrested a 29-year-old Stamford man following the violent assault of a 66-year-old male victim. Ohireime Julian Osemobor was taken into custody on Sunday and charged with assault in the first degree of an elderly person. He remains in the custody of the Stamford Police Department on a $125,000 court set bond, awaiting arraignment this morning in the Stamford Superior Court. According to police, on the evening of May 29 around 10 p.m., Patrol Division Officers responded to the area of East Main Street and Quintard Terrace on a report of a man down on the sidewalk. It was unknown at the time whether the victim fell, or suffered his injuries from foul play, police said. Upon arrival, the victim, who was reportedly found unconscious by witnesses, was transported to Stamford Hospital where he has remained in the Intensive Care Unit, intubated and on a ventilator, after being diagnosed with a brain bleed. . Through local surveillance video, it was determined that the victim was shoved from behind by a single male suspect. The shove caused the victim to fall and strike his head on the concrete sidewalk. "We're very concerned about his status," said Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department of the victim. "If that does change for the worse, these charges can and will be upgraded." It was initially thought that Osemobor may have falsely believed that the victim had accosted a female who was located further up the street at the time, but it was determined that the victim had no apparent altercation with anyone. Investigating officers determined the identity of the suspect to be Osemobor through the surveillance footage. While responding to a disturbance call at a motel on the West Side of Stamford on Sunday afternoon, Patrol Division Officers came across Osemobor and took him into custody. Osemobor was carrying a boxcutter at the time of his arrest, so he was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon. He was also charged with interfering with the police, as he tried to give officers a false name. The charges carry an additional $25,000 bond.
