MANCHESTER, CT — The latest endeavor of Geno Auriemma the restaurateur has a 19th hole flavor to it.
The University of Connecticut woman's baseball coach and Naismith Hall of Fame member and his partners have opened The Hollow at Manchester Country Club. The new restaurant was prominently featured on the country club sign Monday as golfers putted on an adjacent hole.
The Hollow is 1.8 miles from Auriemma's other Manchester restaurant, Cafe Aura, at 45 East Center St., in Manchester.
The two, however have different culinary styles. Aura, has more upscale offerings similar to the old Cavey's it replaced. The Hollow takes on a golf theme.
The Hollow, in the necessity to honor Auriemma's Philadelphia roots, has a cheesesteak. The sandwich menu also features a "Par 4" grilled cheese with American, jack, cheddar and mozzarella (and bacon).
The ROUGHage menu has a variety of salads, including one with a roasted Brussels sprouts base.
The "Fifth Major" is a turkey burger to supplement the four other major beef burger offerings. The U.S. Open burger has the secret MCC sauce.
The Hollow is open for lunch and dinner so, with Auriemma being Auriemma, there is an extensive wine list. Entrees feature fish, pasta chicken and beef dishes.
