By Sarah Kuper, WNIN June 7, 2021 A historic day in Evansville's Covid-19 journey, as officials announce a pivotal resource of the community's response is no longer needed. It was a little over a year ago that Evansville area health officials and residents were clamoring for access to desperately needed COVID-19 tests. Now, officials have announced the CK Newsome Center testing site that used to see long lines of anxious drivers is shutting down on June 23rd. The demand for drive-through Covid testing is no longer there. Representatives from the Evansville Mayor's office say that since spring 2020, the testing site has been essential in the community's fight against Covid-19. The site was a collaboration of state and local health departments, OptumServe, and the Reopen Evansville Task Force. Those still needing a Covid-19 test can go to vanderburghhealth.org to find a location and schedule an appointment. WNIN is the NPR/PBS affiliate in Evansville, Indiana.
