PROVIDENCE, RI — The average price for a gallon of gas went up two cents in Rhode Island over the last week, bringing the cost closer to $3 per gallon.
Lloyd Albert, a spokesperson for AAA Northeast, said that there has been a steady rise in demand since April as commuters head back to the office and families hit the road for vacations.
"This increasing demand and decreasing supply — combined with higher crude oil prices — mean pump prices are likely to fluctuate throughout June," Albert said. "We could see some price decreases early in the month as the school year ends, and increases mid-month as summer travel picks up."
According to AAA, the average cost per gallon in Rhode Island is now $2.96, 9 cents higher than last month and 96 cents higher than this time in 2020. Rhode Island's price is 9 cents lower than the national average of $3.04.
