CHATHAM, NJ — There's an instance in Chatham when a police chase could actually be a good thing for a kid.
That happens when a Chatham Borough Police officer rewards a child for wearing their bicycle helmet.
In that case, when a kid is "caught" making the right choice by putting on a helmet, Chatham Borough Police will leave the safe, young bike rider with a special certificate to redeem at Scoops The Chatham Creamery.
DeFalco's Auto Body Shop on 26 Commerce St. is sponsoring this program for the police department.
Once a child is given an award, parents can take them with their certificate to Scoops on 228 Main St. for a free soft serve ice cream with topping, as part of the program.
