Description
PITTSBURGH, PA — The Gulf Tower, one of Downtown Pittsburgh's most storied skyscrapers, has been condemned by the city's Office of Permits, Licenses and Inspections following a fire last month.
The condemnation notice indicates the building currently is unfit for occupancy and will have to be demolished or repaired.
The fire at the iconic Grant Street building occurred on May 19, with smoke emitted from the top of the building. The fire occurred in the basement, but the smoke traveled up a shaft and escaped near the top of the building.
The Gulf Tower is known for for its unique pyramid design at the top of the building and the LED lights that give current color-coded weather conditions in the city.
