Sharks To Begin Accepting Cryptocurrency Next Season

SAN JOSE, CA — The San Jose Sharks will begin accepting cryptocurrency as a form of payment beginning next season. According to Sharks President Jonathan Becher, the team will take cryptocurrency payments for season tickets, suite leases and partnerships, with other items like single-game tickets and merchandise to be considered at a later time. The Sports Business Journal was first to report the news on Monday. Becher told Sports Business Journal that he wanted to begin normalizing the use of cryptocurrency, which is already being offered through PayPal. The Sharks will work with the payment processor BitPay to take cryptocurrency payments. On Twitter, Becher also appeared open to considering selling non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, of commemorative moments. "I do think the blockchain will have more of an impact on sports & entertainment than people realize," he wrote in a reply.
