Grazing Goats Teach Crestview Elementary Students About The Environment

Press release from South Washington County Schools: June 3, 2021 On Tuesday, June 1 Crestview Elementary School (CES) students participated in a special opportunity to learn about the environment surrounding their school. The South Washington Watershed District (SWWD) brought in 60 goats to graze on land near the school. Students had a chance to get up close with the goats and learned how they are used to improve the overall health and habitat of the land by grazing on invasive plants such as buckthorn, honeysuckle, garlic mustard and more. The invasive plants suppress the growth of natural plants. That in turn, impacts other species such as birds and pollinators. South Washington County Schools (SoWashCo Schools) have partnered with SWWD for a number of projects that help improve our groundwater, environment, and create habitats for birds and pollinators. These projects also offer unique learning opportunities for SoWashCo Schools students. This press release was produced by South Washington County Schools.
