Mega-Concert In Central Park Will Celebrate City's Reopening

CENTRAL PARK, NY — Mayor Bill de Blasio is teaming up with legendary music producer Clive Davis to organize a mega-concert in Central Park this summer to celebrate New York City's reopening from the coronavirus pandemic. The show is tentatively set for August 21 on the Great Lawn as part of the city's "Homecoming Week," according to the New York Times. "This concert is going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity," de Blasio told the Times. "It's going to be an amazing lineup. The whole week is going to be like nothing you've ever seen before in New York City." The mayor made sure to credit the chairman of New York City's Economic Development Danny Meyer for the idea to have the mega-concert and has also reportedly tasked the 89-year-old Davis with finding eight megastars to perform during the three-hour show. "I can't think of a better place than the Great Lawn of Central Park to be the place where you say that New York is reopening," Brooklyn native Davis told the Times. No artists have been confirmed yet. The mayor's office told the Times that the concert will have a vaccinated and unvaccinated section, with about 70 percent of the tickets going to vaccinated people. The tickets will also be mostly free, with a collection of VIP tickets available. The mayor pointed to the success of recent Global Citizen Festivals within Central Park as a reason for why the Great Lawn was a perfect venue for the concert.
