TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County Child Nutrition Program will officially kick off its 2021 Summer Feeding Program on Monday at four locations within the Tuscaloosa County School System. Despite the chance for rain to begin the week, organizers said they plan to have volunteers manning pickup lines. Children must be in the vehicle in order for participants to receive meal kits, due to the limited number of meals available. According to the latest data from the nonprofit Feeding America, more than 8,500 children live with some form of food insecurity in Tuscaloosa County, coming out to nearly 20% of those in the country. Pick up time for the Summer Feeding Program is set for 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., with each child receiving seven breakfast meals and seven lunch meals at no charge. Any child who is 18 years old and younger can participate, regardless if they attend TCSS schools.
