Fine Gardening Assistant / Manager We are a small landscape design and fine gardening business that specializes in environmentally responsible and drought tolerant gardens. We focus on natural and organic materials and stay away from all synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides. We do not maintain lawns or do ‘mow and blow gardening.’ We are looking for an experienced Fine Gardening Assistant or Manager to work with us on very specialized garden maintenance and overseeing landscape installations. Our goal is to train or hire a full-time or part-time Garden Manager / Foreman as soon as possible, depending on experience and availability. Must have a positive attitude, passion for working with plants, and an eye for garden design. Knowledge and experience in both natural and formal pruning techniques is highly desirable. Experience with basic irrigation mechanics and repair is also a great, but not necessary. Possibility to move up as Fine Gardening Manager within 90 days and opportunities to learn landscape design, and work on project installs, is also available for serious candidates. JOB TYPE: Full Time or Part-Time with flexible hours and scheduling. SALARY: $20 - $35 per hr. Compensation will be based on experience with opportunity to move up. START DATE: As soon as possible, flexible for the appropriate candidate Project locations will be ALL be East of La Brea, primarily Hancock Park, Silverlake, and Pasadena. DESCRIPTION Assistant Fine Gardener will manage the day to day maintenance of our residential gardens. The associates will work in close cooperation with one another to carry out all tasks necessary to maintain and preserve landscape and will work directly with our current Fine Gardening Manager. Key Responsibilities: • Maintaining the gardens to world class standards • Managing crew • Driving the truck picking up and dropping off supplies • Planting and plant removal • Woody and herbaceous pruning not limited to deadheading • Application of fertilizer/supplements • Mulching and grading • Observation of pests • Weeding. • Maintaining a line of communication with other garden and staff • Alerting team to any pests, diseases, damages, and problems • Programing of irrigation controller and some minor repairs, when necessary • Keeping work areas clean especially after projects • Working with volunteers and children on special gardening projects • Keeping garden records and photographing when requested • Monitor supplies and suggest improvement. Qualifications and Requirements: • Background in landscaping, horticulture, or gardening experience of 2 years either through coursework or experience. • Hardworking individuals capable of doing physically strenuous work in all weather. • Outgoing personalities who can serve as ambassadors to our patrons, work hard, and have fun doing it. • Responsible individuals committed to doing every job well.
