Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC) is a member-owned, cooperative corporation in charge of picking up and processing nearly 100% of all containers redeemed in Oregon. We are headquartered in Clackamas, OR, but this position services customers in the Salem-Portland area. Summary The Machine Maintenance Mechanic I is responsible for maintenance, cleaning, and servicing of machinery, while using company equipment and vehicle for transportation. This position will perform hands on equipment maintenance and repair work while consistently demonstrating safe and efficient work practices with a positive and professional attitude and demeanor. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance of machinery Properly clean, align, and test core functions of machines Recognize core function issues and report them to management for repair Understand most effective cleaning methods for machines Clean and clear machine mechanisms of obstructions Repair/replace most all parts within a machine, including mechanical and electrical parts, belts, bearings, boards, buttons, switches, signals, small motors and pulleys. Follow troubleshooting logic to determine issues with non-functioning machines. Maintain and repair belts, motors, sensors, and signal wires Swap out components in control panels Lift, carry and raise to a level of 5 feet items weighing up to 50 lbs. Adhere to Safety Standards and policies Clean and maintain work area and equipment to ensure a safe work environment Occasionally cut, torch, grind, weld, or perform hydraulic oil changes Education/Experience High School diploma required Previous experience in an industrial or mechanical environment preferred Minimum 1 year experience with industrial mechanics, welding, and hydraulic systems preferred 1-2 years technical training preferred Requirements – Skills, Job Knowledge & Abilities Basic electrical and mechanical skills and knowledge around gears, pulleys, chains, machinery, and electronic controls. Understand and use basics of machine mechanic and technician level tools Understand basics of AC, DC, 5v, 24v, 110v, 208v3ph and multimeter usage Ability to work well independently and as part of a team; a self-starter, but not hesitant to ask for direction when needed Demonstrated ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple projects, adhere to deadlines, handle frequent changes effectively and professionally, follow through on issues in a timely manner, and give excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with individuals at all levels with both internal and external partners Own a basic tool kit; specialty tools will be provided A current driver’s license and acceptable driving history is required Regular, reliable, in-person attendance Travel This position services routes in Salem through Portland Company van and fuel is provided Frequent local and out of area travel required PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to walk, sit, stand, bend and stoop. Kneeling or crouching while performing repairs is common May be required to lift, carry or push/pull supplies, materials, equipment and/or items weighing up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
