Description
Spiny mice are becoming an increasingly popular exotic pocket pet for people that want an unusual pet that is easy to maintain and care for. They have a calm temperament and are easily hand tamed. The spines are stiff, bristle-like hairs that grow amongst the fur on the back. Their tails are fragile, bare, and scaled. These are super social animals that MUST BE KEPT IN SMALL GROUPS. They will entertain themselves for hours chasing and playing with each other. They love wheels and tunnels. They are primarily kept in aquariums with a secure screen lid to prevent escape by chewing or squeezing between wire. 10 gallon tanks can accommodate two mice, but a 20 gallon is preferred for three or more. Paper style bedding is recommended. They are known for their cleanliness, designating a single area for waste, reducing cage cleaning a monthly chore. They are omnivores with a diet that consists of seeds, nuts, grains, greens, and fruits, vegetables, insects as treats.
$50 for pair, $75 for trio
