Description

Join Make-A-Day Foundation June 28th, on Standard Hall's Patio to lend a hand to your neighbors in need! Make-A-Day Event Summary The Make-A-Day Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides outreach to Columbus’ homeless population and any of our neighbors in need. Our block party styled, pop-up outreach events focus on providing opportunities for homeless guests to build personal relationships with other community members. We provide guests with free clothing, personal care items, and a complementary meal from a gourmet local food truck. Make-A-Day also offers our guests free haircuts, shampoos, styling and shaves from some of the city’s best local cosmetologists. Make-A-Day Foundation’s guests will also have access to help obtaining “on-the-spot” presumptive Medicaid health insurance coverage, as well as medical, behavioral health, dental and vision service referrals. Special Thanks to Gold Sponsors Molina HealthCare of Ohio & ChooseKindFoundation!!! Volunteer Roles Explanation Read Carfully To Choose Your Preferred Slot! Volunteers will be assigned to specific roles. The event is from 11am - 1pm for our guests, but volunteers will need to be on site from 10am - 2pm. Hosts This is the most important and most hectic job. You must be an organized, people person that can think on your feet and scout potential bottle necks and problems before they get too significant. The host helps ensure that guests are on the list and are retrieved for haircuts, consultation with benefits experts, vaccinations, dental and legal clinic openings! This is position is like the Quarterback in Football! Servers Since everyone will need to be seated, we need volunteers willing to help serve/bring our folks their meal, and take direction from the hosts to let each guest know when their haircut chair is open (if they want one), when a spot at the experts table is open, and when the dental or legal clinic has an opening (if they are signed up). The goal is to make it feel similar to doing a regular service at a restaurant, but with a twist of remembering names, faces and being willing to help shepard people to their open spots for resources. Friendship Builders We also need people that are willing to sit and chat with people and build relationships, and be good listeners to learn about people’s stories and needs. In doing so, we hope that folks can gently, and without being intrusive, inquire about their needs related to healthcare, health insurance, criminal justice support, and any other social services they may need.
