DARIEN, IL — Darien continues to see weekly coronavirus rate increases of less than 1 percent, according to the DuPage County Health Department. As of Sunday, Darien had a total of 1,762 coronavirus cases, up nine from a week before, or a 0.5 percent increase. The previous week, the city saw the same percentage increase in cases. The city's number of coronavirus deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 21. That works out to less than a thousandth of Darien's population. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but 2.1 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload. As of Sunday, Darien had 81.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, better than its neighbors. The figure compares to 88.1 in La Grange Park, 91.4 in DuPage County, 93.2 in Hinsdale, 94 in Elmhurst, 98.7 in Western Springs, 99.6 in Clarendon Hills, 101.8 in suburban Cook County, 104.2 in Burr Ridge and 120.8 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands). As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,385,245, up 0.3 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 22,949. Nationally, 33.2 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 0.3 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
