FREMONT, CA — Fremont, the Bay Area's fourth-largest city, was listed at the bottom of WalletHub's "staycation" list, ranking as the worst city for taking a local vacation.
The financial advice website ranked Fremont at no. 182, making it the last place residents would want to staycation in. The reasons listed were having the fewest swimming pools per capita and the fewest ice cream and frozen yogurt shops per capita.
Nearby San Francisco ranked at no. 3 as one of the best places to staycation, earning high marks in recreations, food and entertainment and rest and relaxation.
WalletHub's "2021 Best & Worst Cities for Staycations" was published last week and compares 182 U.S. cities for vacationing locally. The figures were based off 46 metrics, which observed parks per capita, restaurant meal costs and more.
"...even though the COVID-19 vaccines have made summer travel possible, some people may not be ready to venture far from home yet, and others simply don't have the money to take a trip with how hard COVID-19 has hit the economy," WalletHub said in its report. "Luckily, there are certain places that offer plenty of options for entertainment and relaxation at the right price point, making those cities the perfect spots for staying local."
