PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenix residents are being asked to avoid the area near 35th Avenue and Lincoln Street while firefighters battle a six-alarm fire that's consumed multiple commercial buildings and recycling yards, according to reports.
The fire was upgraded to six alarms just after 2:20 p.m. More than 150 firefighters are on scene, according to a tweet by the Phoenix Fire Department.
Phoenix police officers told The Arizona Republic they were evacuating nearby neighborhoods due to the fire. They were worried high winds could spark house fires.
Officials said 35th Avenue from Buckeye to Van Buren will be closed until further notice.
At this point, it's unclear how the fire started.
