Description

I've been vaccinerated! Twice Old and experienced Bass Player Available on Whidbey Island looking to work with some good players. Fretted and Fretless Electric Bass. Chops, Gear, Experience, Transportation, Groove, Reading, Ear, Time Pretty much any style but like Blues and R&B. I've been through much of the Jazz book too. If you are creative and write/create your own material that is a huge PLUS. Must be on Whidbey Island, prefer South Whidbey. More below: More: Education: Individual instruction - Ron Simon - Bassist Seattle Symphony Several independent electric bass instructors College level Music Theory and allied credits. University of Washington Jazz Lab Band Individual Instruction from Jazz great Ray Brown while gigging in LA. 50 years of analyzing the great song writers. There is no better musical education than actual live gigs and I have done thousands. Playing with musicians better than oneself is another path toward self improvement. I have had the privilege to play with many including learning interesting concepts such as "feel", "soul", "swing", "emotion" and "joy". These things come from actually playing with musicians who have already mastered them or have it in their soul. Another important educational aspect is being a good team player. One great thing about music is that a player can have a phD or brag about big names in music and it means nothing. The real test of ability is to actually play, sound good, have fun and make it look easy. The bass players job is to make YOU sound good and to communicate dance rhythm to the audience. THE most important ingredient: Being actual friends with band-mates rather then just musical associates. The second important ingredient: Playing music is serious business requiring dedication and all the rest of it. It's not an excuse for party time, at least not for me. Styles Played: Top 40 and dance tunes 1950's through 1990's. Many commercial groups and gigs mostly 5 sets per night, 6 nights per week. Blues: Various groups including founding member of Whidbey's own "Blue Nectar" which did well in the PNW Blues scene. R&B, Funk with various artists including founding member of successful Seattle Band "The Black and White Affair" under contract to Quincy Jones: Gula Matari (production), Rexford Records (Publishing) and Vincent Andrews Inc. (management/Booking). Jazz: Standards to Fusion Latin Jazz: Bahia 13 years. Country Western: With RC Bannon, Mafe Nutter, Bonnie Guitar (recording artists) and others. Recording: No discography but I have recorded many single, album and CD projects since 1967. Mostly in pro studios prior to year 1983 (when I retired from pro music scene). None of these were big hits with the exception of The Black and White Affair "Sweet Soul Lady"/"Until the Real Thing Comes Along" and one of R.C. Bannon's projects which did well in the Country world. DVD's: Featured in "Wheedle's Groove" a great documentary about the 1960's - 1970's Seattle R&B music scene.
