Description
The dynamic father-son duo pushes the boundaries of the Appalachian tradition Regarded as one of the most influential hammered dulcimer players, Baltimore’s Ken Kolodner (co-founder of Helicon) has performed and toured for the last ten years with his son Brad Kolodner (Charm City Junction), one of the finest practitioners of the clawhammer banjo, to perform tight and musical arrangements of original and traditional old-time music with a “creative curiosity that lets all listeners know that a passion for traditional music yet thrives in every generation (DPN).” The dynamic father-son duo pushes the boundaries of the Appalachian tradition by infusing their own brand of driving, innovative, tasteful and unique interpretations of traditional and original fiddle tunes and songs. The Kolodners perform frequently as a quartet with their long-time playing partners: Alex Lacquement (Charm City Junction, The Bumper Jacksons) who locks it all together with his creative bass playing and the versatile multi-instrumentalist Rachel Eddy, one of the best-known performers in the old-time scene. Performing on hammered dulcimer, twin & triple fiddles, banjo, gourd banjo, hammered mbira, guitar, bass and vocals, the Kolodner’s have recorded four CDs, with the last two featuring the full quartet. The quartet were winners of the 2019 Neo-Traditional Band Competition at Clifftop. At the center of the old-time scene in the mid-Atlantic, father & son run The Baltimore Old Time Jam and The Baltimore Old Time Music Festival. Brad (Charm City Junction) is also a well-known syndicated radio DJ (Bluegrass Country and Folk Alley). The Arts Collective is a 501(c)(3) organization created to address the cultural and economic needs of Havre de Grace and the surrounding region. The Arts Collective has several goals. First, to bring regional and national high caliber performances to The Cultural Center at the Opera House that engage and attract audiences. Second, to further develop the Arts and Entertainment (A&E) District program of the State of Maryland attracting artists to live, work and play in Havre de Grace. Third, to enhance the arts by serving as the umbrella organization for the Arts by The Bay Gallery, serving as a cooperative gallery and offering educational opportunities which nurture learning and creativity.
