Contest Rules: Same as Walnut Valley Contest Rules, with the exception of the moratorium length (see below). https://www.wvfest.com/2021-contest-rules/ Details USIC consists of ten different competitions. Each of five different contests has an Open Division and a Novice Division competition. The five contests are Banjo, Fiddle, Fingerstyle Guitar, Mandolin, and Flatpick Guitar. You may register in either the Novice or Open Division. Any age may compete in either Division, and it is up to you to determine which. Instead of our previous 5-year moratorium, it is now 3 years! We are now restricting previous 1st place Open Division winners from competing again for three years (on the same instrument/contest). This 3-year moratorium does not apply if you previously won a 2nd or 3rd place, or are competing in a different Open contest. As always, the Utah State Instrument Championships follow the Walnut Valley Contest Rules. The exception is our 3-year moratorium instead of their 5. Prizes ALL top three finishers (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners) in both Novice and Open Division contests will be awarded a ribbon and a certificate! Cash Prizes for Open Division Winners: 1st place: $250 2nd place $100 3rd place $75 Cash Prizes for Novice Division Winners: 1st place: $100 2nd place: $50 3rd place: $30 Open 1st place winners will have a chance to perform a tweener spot at the Ogden Music Festival Sept 3-5, 2021, and/or at The Gallivan Center during the Bluegrass Saturday Night Concert on August 7, 2021. EVERY 1st place Open Division winner will also receive: A free invitation ticket to compete at the National Instrument Championships at the 49th Walnut Valley Music Festival in Winfield, Kansas, Sept. 15-19, 2021! Schedule Open Division competitions always immediately follow the Novice Division competitions for each contest/instrument. Each Contest will immediately follow the conclusion and short awards ceremony of the previous contest. The time on the tickets is a conservative approximation of when those events might start. The number of contestants in each division and the judging will determine how long each contest last. We do know that novice banjo will get things rolling at 9:00 AM., All other times are approximate.
