FREE milkweed seedlings to plant in your garden. Give Monarch Butterflies a home and enjoy beautiful flowers! Join Ranger Nick at the Visitor Center Butterfly Garden to get FREE Rose Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) seedlings that have already sprouted. Rose Milkweed is a host plant for Monarch Butterfly caterpillars and will flower beautifully in August. Please note that these plants need full sun and must be in average-to-moist soil. Bring a small container (like a yogurt cup) to carry your seedlings home. Limit 2 per person. Use the park entrance at 8801 Glenwood Ave. Stay straight on Umstead Parkway for a mile until you reach the Visitor Center on your right. The Butterfly Garden is in front of the building by the flagpole.
