The Book Club by Black Girls is a book club hosted by The Bookshop that welcomes Black girls ages 12-17 to come in and read books. Commencing June 19th for Juneteenth at 12 p.m., The Book Club by Black Girls is an event to be hosted every Saturday by The Bookshop by Life to Paper that welcomes girls aged 12-17 to come in and read books. The Book Club is divided into 2 age groups: 12-14 years old and 15-17 years old. As for our Juneteenth event, this event will be free to attend and we will be reading the following books provided by the Black Girls Gather organization: Ages 12-14 will be reading AYA: Life in yop City by ClĂ©ment Oubrerie and Marguerite Abouet Ages 15-17 will be reading Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves by Glory Edim, Jesmyn Ward, Jacqueline Woodson, Gabourey Sidibe, Tayari Jones, Rebecca Walker, Barbara Smith, Zinzi Clemmons, N.K. Jemisin, Nicole Y. Dennis-Benn, and Jamia Wilson. We will also be discussing Juneteenth and what it is and will have the girls introduce themselves. We will also be giving the girls the books as well as swag for the girls to take home. We encourage those interested in attending to RSVP by sending an email to [email protected]
