Press release from City of Waltham: June 4, 2021 See the official proclamation from Mayor McCarthy here. Juneteenth, also referred to as "Freedom Day", commemorates the abolition of slavery on June 19, 1865. In honor of this significant celebration, the Juneteenth holiday will be observed in Waltham on Friday, June 18th. All city offices and the Waltham Public Library will be closed. Waltham Public Schools will remain open for their last day of school. Echoing Mayor McCarthy's sentiments, we encourage all in Waltham to become more aware of the significance of this celebration in African-American History, and in the heritage of our nation and city.   See the official proclamation from Mayor McCarthy here.
