1 Person Struck, Killed By Train, Metra BNSF Trains Delayed

AURORA, IL — Metra trains on the BNSF line were operating with extensive delays after a freight train struck and killed a pedestrian on Friday afternoon, but normal operation has resumed. According to Riverside Public Safety, fire and police personnel were called to the scene of a person struck by a train at the BNSF crossing on Cowley Road. Officials found the body east of the crossing, where the victim was pronounced. The pedestrian's name has not been released yet. The body was transferred to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. A spokesperson for Riverside Public Safety said all rail traffic resumed around 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. According to transit officials, train #1316, originally scheduled to leave Aurora at 2:20 p.m. was cancelled completely. Riders could take the next train leaving Aurora at 4:20 p.m. to Chicago Union Station. Metra Alert BNSF - Inbound and outbound tracks are open near Riverside and normal operations have resumed. There are some residual delays but a normal evening rush hour is expected.
