Underground Utilities Pipe Layer Laborer Reporting to the Superintendent, the Pipe Layer is responsible for preparing and installing underground pipelines; most frequently water lines, storm and sanitary sewer. Duties also include general labor, digging and cleanup and may extend beyond this job description. Install sanitary sewer, storm water sewer and consumable water structures and pipe systems. Lay out pipe routes, following specifications and coordinating layouts with supervisor. Cut pipes to required lengths. Assist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction. Align and position pipes to prepare them for sealing. Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers. Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, cement or glue. Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices. Cover pipes with earth or other materials. Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools. Intimate and working knowledge of industry standard hand signals. Other general labor and construction related duties as required. Knowledge of hydrostatic pump operations helpful. Physical requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods of time Ability to crawl and kneel for extended period Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly Ability to bend, climb, lift throughout the day Be able to work outside in all conditions Candidates must be willing to submit to pre-employment drug screen.
