Description
Filled with joyful music, Evensong is one of the most beautiful and prayerful liturgies in the Anglican tradition. Filled with joyful music, some regard Evensong as one of the most beautiful and prayerful liturgies in the Anglican tradition, especially as celebrated in cathedrals. Livestreaming will pause for the summer, and return during the academic year. Advance registration is required to attend in person for contact tracing. Masks must be worn and social distancing protocols will be followed. Evensong expands the daily Evening Prayer service prayed by Episcopalians and Anglicans all over the world, with music by the cathedral choir. Combining elements from both Evening Prayer and Compline (Night Prayer), Evensong includes chants and anthems by the choir, readings from scripture, hymns sung by the congregation, and prayers for the church, the local community, and the wider world. During the academic year, our boy choristers sing at Thursday Evensong along with the men of the cathedral choir. When school is not in session, Evensong is sung by the men of the Choir. Doors open for seating at 5:10 p.m. Entrance to the cathedral is at the top of the Great Steps. The accessible entrance is via the breezeway on Sacramento Street between Taylor and Jones Streets or via the glass doors on Taylor Street to the left of the garage entrance.
