WILMINGTON, MA — After a long career in law enforcement, Lt. David Sugrue is hanging up his badge for good. Sugrue, who spent nearly 32 years with the Wilmington Police Department, officially retired Tuesday. "We thank Lt. Sugrue for his many years of service to the community of Wilmington, and we wish him a long and happy retirement!" the police department posted via its official Facebook page. Prior to being appointed to the Wilmington Police Department, he served with the Hampton Police Department from 1985 to 1989. Lt. Sugrue worked as a patrol officer, traffic officer and detective for many years. As a detective, he was assigned to the FBI's Homeland Security Task Force. He was appointed to the position of sergeant in 2013 and then lieutenant in 2020, according to the police department.
