MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Marblehead Charter School is giving North Shore residents an opportunity to get rid of some unwanted electronics to benefit the school this weekend. On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon at the school's Lime Street campus, recycling drive organizers will collect electronics with funds raised to be used to support enrichment programs at the school. Items accepted range from small batteries to lawnmowers, washers and dryers. For $15 residents can fill a shoebox with old phones, cell phones, chargers, iPods/MP3 players, personal care appliances, answering machines and cables. Batteries can be recycled for $2 per pound. For $10 each, residents can recycle laptops, personal computers, keyboards, servers, modems, routers, speakers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, radios, stereo equipment and battery-operated tools. For $20 each, residents can recycle flat-screen monitors, CRT monitors, car seats and air conditioners. For $40 each, residents can recycle tube televisions, flat-screen televisions, stoves, washers, dryers, lawnmowers, large tools and equipment, and small refrigerators. Organizers have the right to refuse any item and cannot accept anything that contains mercury, PCBs, propane tanks, car batteries, light bulbs, plastic toys, paint, solvent, chemicals, construction materials, yard waste and medical equipment.
