GREENDALE, WI — The Village Board of Trustees has decided to take a new approach toward Southridge Mall on Tuesday by removing development restrictions, according to a news release. The move will change outdated restrictions for developers at the Southridge Mall property, the news release stated. Removing such restrictions could open up new doors for how future developers approach the mall. Current regulations restrict the size of buildings and how they are used. Although the restrictions were relevant when created, they have failed to adapt to a changing market, the news release said. "We have a significant opportunity to redefine our community and create a new, state-of-the-art community hub on the current property," Village President Jason Cyborowski said. The new approach to Southridge comes after revelations surfaced about extensive rent deferrals at Southridge Mall, alongside another initiative by the Village purchasing the former site of Boston Store at the mall. The Boston Store site purchase is already working toward new redevelopment, possibly benefiting from this recent decision to remove restrictions. Without the former restriction in place, potential developers will be freer to propose different uses.
