Description

On Thursday, June 3rd, the Junior Woman's Club of Milford presented Katherine Mao, Hunter Fonck and Ethan Edmondson each with a $1,000 scholarship for their continued education. The scholarships are awarded annually to high school seniors who have shown exemplary academics and devotion to the Milford community. Katherine is a senior at Jonathan Law High School and will be attending Brown University. Katherine has engaged in several community service opportunities, as well as extracurriculars. When asked what does being a part of the Milford community mean to her, she said "Milford's motto is 'a small city with a big heart', and I think that rings true in every corner of Milford. A small gesture can achieve a ripple effect where one act of kindness prompts others to do the same." Hunter is also a senior at Jonathan Law High School and is working through his decision on which college he would like to attend. Hunter created a non-profit named "Hunter's Wish to Cure EB." The goal of the organization is to raise awareness for Epidermolysis Bullosa, and to be inclusive of others who look different. Ethan is a senior at Joseph A. Foran High School and will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Ethan has been involved in several extracurriculars and will graduate with distinction in community service. In 2019, Ethan spent a week in Houston, TX with his church youth group on a mission trip. The group helped rebuild homes affected by Hurricane Harvey a year prior. Congratulations to Katherine, Hunter and Ethan and thank you to all of the students who took the time to apply. The Junior Woman's Club of Milford is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded on the principles of promoting education, public health, philanthropy and service to the Milford community. Our programs include the Citywide Spelling Bee, Living Treasure Awards, Literacy Center Awards, Adopt-A-Spot, and the Respect Campaign.
