MONTVILLE, CT — Captain John B. Ceruti of Troop E in Montville has received a promotion to captain. He has served as a trooper for more than 21 years and held numerous assignments. Ceruti has earned the State Police Medal for Meritorious Service and two Unit Citations. A U.S. Navy veteran, he also served six years with Howard County P.D. in Maryland. He holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Criminal Justice. He will also remain as a commanding officer for Troop E. The Connecticut State Police promoted 11 lieutenants to captain during a ceremony Thursday at State Police Headquarters. James C. Rovella, commissioner of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, and Colonel Stavros Mellekas, commanding officer of the Connecticut State Police, formally promoted the troopers in a socially-distanced manner, according to a statement from state police. The 11 lieutenants promoted to captain have many years of experience as patrol troopers, detectives, resident troopers, and sergeants.
