CLINTON, MD — Surrattsville High School pitcher Tiara Pinkard threw a no-hitter this season, NBC Washington reported Monday. Pinkard is one of two young women on the team, journalist Tracee Wilkins noted. NBC said Pinkard and her teammate, Kylei Matthews, often hear trash talk, but the juniors think their play speaks for itself.
"So I was like, 'Let me just prove y'all wrong right quick,'" Pinkard told the news outlet. "I was shocked myself. Once I did it I was like, 'Dang, you really just did that.' But it felt good."
This is the first time the Hornets baseball team is co-ed, Wilkins mentioned. NBC explained that the Surrattsville baseball and softball squads have both battled player hesitancy and shortages during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Hornets baseball team gladly welcomed Pinkard and Matthews to bolster its roster, Wilkins concluded.
