PRINCETON, NJ — The township's Pedestrian & Bicycle Advisory Committee (PBAC) is the 2021 recipient of the Marty Epstein Advocate of the Year Award. The award recognizes excellence in advocating for the bicycle and pedestrian safety movement. The award was presented on Tuesday at the virtual opening of the Annual Summit of the New Jersey Bike & Walk Coalition, following keynote speakers Sheila Oliver, New Jersey Lt. Governor, and U.S. Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11). The Marty Epstein Advocate of the Year Award honors Marty's 41 years of advocacy to make New Jersey more livable through bicycling and is given to individuals and organizations, in recognition of their work in the advocacy movement. The three other recipients of the award were NJBWC Board Member Cyndi Steiner, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, and Trenton Cycling Revolution (TCR). Last year, PBAC received a New Jersey 'Silver' ranking for Bike Friendly Communities. The committee was instrumental in launching Princeton's Bicycle Mobility Plan, which led to the installation and reconstruction of several bike lanes, ten miles of designated Bike Boulevards, and additional bike parking, the township said.
