Press release from the Dayton Metro Library: June 3, 2021 An exhibit of military uniforms, artifacts and written material about veterans is on display at the Dayton Metro Library through July 6. The exhibit, presented by the American Veterans Heritage Center (AVHC), is located in the Dayton Room on the second floor of the Main Library, 215 E. Third Street, and is free and open to the public. Dan Kirkpatrick, of the American Veterans Heritage Center at the Veterans Administration, assembled the exhibit. The AVHC is a nonprofit organization honoring the accomplishments of veterans and preserving the Soldiers Home, located at the VA Medical Center in Dayton."This display gives people an opportunity to see up close different uniforms worn by veterans, some of the tools and equipment they used, and books written by and about veterans," said Kirkpatrick. "It's important that citizens, especially our young people, understand the sacrifices veterans have made over the years for the freedoms we enjoy." The Library's Dayton Room houses more than 200 years of historical materials about Dayton, Montgomery County, and the Miami Valley. The collection includes books, photographs, pamphlets, magazines, newspapers, maps, manuscripts, postcards, videos and more. Many of the historic images can be found in Dayton Remembers, an online digital database at DaytonMetroLibrary.org. This press release was produced by the Dayton Metro Library.
