PHOENIX, AZ — A man accused of holding others at gunpoint was shot and injured by police, according to Phoenix police.
The shooting, which happened at 5 p.m. at the intersection of Camelback Road and 15th Avenue, began when an officer that was directing traffic through a construction zone told the suspect to put down his weapon, which he refused to do, according to police.
The suspect was then shot by the officer, who has not been identified by police, while neither of the people the suspect was holding at gunpoint were injured, police said.
Charges for the suspect will be announced once he leaves the hospital, according to police.
The initial shooting likely stemmed from a shoplifting incident at a nearby store, police said.
Patch has reached out to Phoenix police for additional information about the shooting and will update this story once they respond.
