I am planning an event at the Kilgore Forthouse in Nickelsville, Virginia on June 25 for all kids. The OVTA and the Sons of the American Revolution will be setting up at the Kilgore Forthouse. Members will be there to give history lessons about the Revolutionary War and the contribution of the Kilgore Brothers in that war. All five of the Kilgore brothers fought in the Battle of King’s Mountain on October 7, 1780. The battle, which was a victory for the Americans, was a major turning point in the Revolutionary War. Please pass this along to all children and their families you may know. This will be a great chance for the children and adults to learn the history of the Revolutionary War and those that fought in it. We will also have vendors set up displaying some of the items used in that time period. THERE IS NO COST FOR THIS HISTORY DAY. That weekend will also be the 3rd Annual Kilgore reunion June 26 - 27. Folks will be setting up Friday, June 24. Reunion will be June 26th, 12pm to 6pm. This will be pot luck so bring your favorite dish. If you would like to camp during this time there is plenty of room. Also I am interested in getting some folks to play some music, if you are interested, please let me know. Donations toward repairs to the cabin is all we ask for. If you can make this please let me know. There is plenty of shade trees for cooling, a river for wading, fishing or swimming. Activities for the kids including sack races and corn hole games. Bring a tent, a chair and come enjoy the history of Scott County and the ancestry of those that helped to preserve the freedoms we have today. Learn their role in this time period. Bring your family tree information along with any memorabilia you may want to share. There is plenty of room for social distancing. We will have masks and plenty of hand sanitizer. There will also be a wreath laying ceremony for the Kilgore Brothers done by OVTA.
